Dear friends of classical music,

New reviews from the december issues of Classical Music, Early Music Today and Opera Now are available on agoraclassica.com. Here below you can find some reviews I would like to highlight.

Opera Now does not often give 5 stars to new recordings. However this time, in Opera Now-Fs last issue, Francis Muzzu handed out top marks to the recital with Handel arias of the very young Julia Lezhneva. Here's how he describes the quality of her singing: ...a fascinating voice...; ...her joy of singing is palpable...; ...employs a range of colours and tones to contrast her material... Needless to say, this recital is considered as one of the best releases of 2015 and thoroughly recommended.

Bruno Maderna was interned by the SS during the Second World War. During that period he wrote his Requiem. Classical Music has a short review of this work in its December issue. He is definitely a composer that I would like to know better. I will investigate his works in the coming weeks.

Tactus tends to release interesting repertoire that can sometimes be marred by subpar recording quality or interpretation. I'm glad to read that this time they have released a recording of Andrea Gabrieli's Messa Bassa that thrilled Brian Robbins of Early Music Today. The recording got a Critic-Fs Choice in the December issue: The performances by the mixed ensemble are quite simply outstanding, beautifully tuned and balanced$B!D(B
