Pärt’s Te Deum is an impressive 1985 setting, recently revised, in which the 17 verses are each linked with chords and ever-expanding melodic textures that become increasingly familiar. The delicate and carefully measured accompaniment for the three choirs is cast for string orchestra with a prepared piano and wind harp, and a gently pre-recorded soundscape acting as a refrain. A short and separate Nunc dimittis is set apart from this 30-minute work almost as an a cappella afterthought. The CD also includes the male-voice Wallfahrtslied and string pieces. Young conductor Risto Joost, a counter-tenor soloist in his own right, oversees excellent performances.
