Belgian composer, conductor and teacher De Vocht devoted himself largely to the production of sacred music in the first half of the 20th century. This disc of liturgical works for female choir and organ, reveals a talent for charming, undemanding, tuneful material: not profound but a good vehicle for prayer. The finest thing here, the Missa in honorem Angelorum, is at times reminiscent of Fauré. The performances are committed and deeply felt if not always of the highest accuracy and, while the temperaments of the Cavaillé-Coll organ and the choir are sometimes at odds, the sound is mostly very lovely.
