This highly enjoyable disc of German romantic choral repertoire is beautifully programmed and executed. Almost half its duration is devoted to Rheinberger, including some exquisite settings of Mörike and Eichendorff, with Schumann’s Gypsy song op.29 no.3 and Brahms’s op.62 part-songs completing the recital. The exemplary recording is matched by idiomatic readings of repertoire which, in truth, only a German choir can tackle with complete ownership. Under Daus, the voices of EuropaChorAkademie have cultivated a well-judged tone and balance, with notably clear diction.
