Restored in 1998 at A417 Hz and meantone temperament, this famous organ contains ranks dating from 1446, although most ranks date from 1518 and 1643, the year when Van Hagerbeer completed this large 3-manual organ. Hence the choice of Scheidemann, perhaps Sweelinck’s most important pupil, is entirely justified. Leo van Doeselaar, the present organist of this fine instrument, is ideally placed to record this music, choosing a wide range of genres – fantasias, preludes, toccatas, chorale-based works, as well as the Paduana Lachrymae and Galliarda. The CD concludes with a demonstration of the most important ranks and various plena.
