This imaginative recording is of mostly transcriptions for two organs placed either side of the chancel of Asti Cathedral. The organs by Grisanti (1768) and Serassi (1844) are in unequal temperament and very well in tune. Repertoire includes Vivaldi op.3 no.10, which Bach arranged for four harpsichords (BWV 1065), and Handel’s organ concerto no.16 (itself an arrangement of the Concerto a due cori no.3). Also included are works by G. Gabrieli, C. Gussago, Viadana and Pasquini. More modern works include Rossini’s Sinfonia from L’italiana in Algeri, and John Rutter’s stylistically eclectic varia- tions on O Filii et Filiae.
