With the superb ensemble she now leads, Alsop takes arguably Prokofiev’s greatest symphony and shakes it by the neck, in a reading of intense colour and explosive power. The result is that it has seldom seemed more modern or more dangerous. Vividly recorded, this is an auspicious start to a Prokofiev cycle from these artists.
