This is really special. Nearly 20 hours of Gould’s eclectic CBC programmes full of wit, insight and visual flair across a wide range of music from Sweelinck to Shostakovich. When classical music tv today risks accusations of dumbing down, this is a salutary lesson in truly serious broadcasting that is both approachable and engaging. And don’t miss his spoofs of Boult, Stockhausen and – of all people – Marlon Brando.
