Many pianists have paired the two concertos on disc, not least the composer himself (recorded sadly, though, too late in life), but none with such an unexpected and ultimately illuminating coupling. Melnikov and Faust immediately get to the heart of the sonata, and no better case for this difficult work has been made on disc. The freshness and insight found in the concertos that begin and end the programme are an unparalleled delight. Excellent sound and fascinating notes.
