Organ music formed just a fraction of Widor’s output, and much of his other music has genuine appeal. In their second disc devoted to the composer, Yates and his players give us his Chabrier-like second symphony and preludes from his almost-Wagnerian opera Les Pêcheurs de Saint-Jean. Though hardly the ‘major addition’ to the repertoire here claimed, the cello concerto is an attractive piece to which Thedéen responds with gusto. Lovely playing throughout, and fine recorded sound.
