The prolific output of John Kinsella, the former head of music at Irish broadcaster RTÉ, is often likened to Sibelius and Mahler, but his deft handling of orchestral sonorities – such as the augmented horn section in his sixth symphony and solo strings fusing with choir in his seventh – have distinctive charm. As does the energetic story-telling of Cúchulainn and Ferdia: Duel at the Ford.
