Worth looking at, too, is Verdi’s Luisa Miller in a Vienna State Opera broadcast from 1974 under the expert baton of Italian opera specialist Alberto Erede. The cast includes Franco Bonisolli’s visceral Rodolfo, Bonaldo Giaiotti’s reliable Walter, Christa Ludwig’s forthright Federica and Giuseppe Taddei’s slightly worn Miller, while the title role is in the capable hands of Lithuanian-born, Canadian soprano Lilian Sukis.
