As listeners to this and recent years’ BBC Proms will know, Grime is a composer with an individual voice, a keen ear for sonority, and a craftsman-like facility. This disc presents the first fruits of her position as associate composer to the Halle, and makes a fine introduction to an important voice in contemporary music. Performances are spot-on, not least from the orchestra’s assistant conductor, Jamie Phillips, making an auspicious debut on disc.
