Even if it has languished in Sony’s vaults for three decades, this is something special. Achucarro, now in his early eighties and a national treasure in his homeland, has the most remarkable cantabile which, combined with a winning rubato and rhythmic panache, make this a most desirable recital. Sound is variable: the Granados is slightly muffled compared to the excellent Albéniz and Falla.
