This II/20 organ is a modern instrument based on one first constructed around 1770, sounding fine and clear in this (short) programme of Preludes & Fugues in B minor (BWV 544) and G major (541), O Mensch, bewein (622), Trio Sonata in E flat (525) and the Passacaglia (582). The playing is safe, with ‘correct’ articulation alternating between legato and detached, and tempi that are somewhat conservative. The B minor Prelude and the Passacaglia lack tension and forward direction, the latter registered prettily but without much reference to the symmetrical structure. Potentially dramatic moments are glossed over rather ineffectively.
