This collection of 16th- and early 17th-century choral music by Albinius Fabricius, Philippe de Monte, Leonhard Lechner, Rogier Michael and Alfonso Ferrabosco comes from the library of Freiberg Latin School. Furthermore, musical texts often differ from the known printed sources and therefore present a unique view of local performance practices. The instruments used are copies of some of the thirty late 16th-century instruments deposited in the Funeral Chapel in Freiberg Cathedral, placed in the hands of golden angels. Performances are beautifully controlled and clearly recorded. A worthy tribute to Freiberg’s great musical heritage.
