The title is taken from Pamela Decker’s three-movement suite dedicated to the organist, and it is good to have her complex but well-structured music on CD. This is followed by Heinz Wunderlich’s Organ Sonata on a Single Theme and finally Reger’s Variations & Fugue, op.73. Both Decker’s and Freese’s German studies make this a thoroughly Germanic CD, recorded on the huge new 93-stop organ in vast acoustics. The musical styles progress from Reger to Wunderlich to Decker, but this programme, strangely, is in reverse order. However, the playing is fine and management of the organ is totally convincing.
