The focal point of this CD is the Gospel text for the fifth Sunday after Trinity, ‘Be not afraid’, with which three cantatas are associated, and recorded here: BWV 93, 153 and 88. Sung by single voices and played by expert instrumentalists, the programme begins with the organ Prelude (BWV 568) and concludes with the Passacaglia (BWV 582) played on the famous Müller organ. Chorale prelude BWV 647 and the motet Fürchte dich nicht (BWV 228) complete the programme. The series ‘Bach in context’ is an excellent idea, each CD based on a liturgical theme, and beautifully packaged in an informative hard-bound book.
