A generous collection of delightful rarities, well-played (a few moments of insecure intonation aside) and extremely well-recorded. Spohr’s almost operatic Violin Concerto No 8 – here arranged by Friedrich Grutzmacher – is a bold opener with an exquisitely beautiful slow movement and Weber’s Grand pot-pourri is over the top in the very best way.
