The grandest of Rossini’s so-called ‘sins of old age’ (often dismissed as not a mass, not solemn and certainly not small) here sees Chailly leading a vigorous, hugely-persuasive concert performance captured in superb sound and pictures (though operatic vibrato sometimes distracts from the enjoyment).
