Korngold’s late blooming romanticism is more discursive in the 50-minute symphony than in his spectacularly renascent violin concerto, with frequent slides from rhapsodic lyricism to darker moods. The recently rediscovered Dances in Old Style offers a more laid-back seven minutes, flaunting Korngold’s rich palette of orchestral colours, and the Finnish players deliver all in impressive style.
