For its first full-length recording of a foreign-language opera, Hyperion tackles a challenge. Frank martin’s version of Shakespeare’s The Tempest bubbles with human emotion rather than ethereality, delivered in austere Sprechgesang. A fine cast, deftly directed by Thierry Fischer in this live recording from Amsterdam, rewards careful listening.
