Leonid Desyatnikov is best known outside Russia for his film scores, but his chamber music deftly weaves quotations from other composers with his own themes, often using unusual instrumental combinations. Return for woodwind, strings and tape, as well as the album’s title work – which pits countertenor against instruments – exemplify his rich sound palette.
