A summer festival atmosphere permeates this album from canadian label marquis of what might be termed american light music. There is the boisterous ragtime of William Balcom’s Ragomania overture, set against the luscious lyricism of his clarinet concerto and the delicate humour of his Commedia ‘for [almost] 18th-century orchestra’. That is punctuated by clare Fischer’s The Duke Swee’Pea and Me, another high-quality jazzy jaunt.
