As the soloist line-up suggests, Matalon’s strength is creating a rich sound tapestry from unusual instrumental combinations, delivered with vigour. But despite the works’ title (Threads), what these lack – in common with so many other contemporary pieces – is structuring those vivid colours into an overall picture.
