World premiere recordings of spaciously lyrical works by this little-known Italian composer. On the evidence of this CD, he was a composer in search of a distinctive voice: one is reminded now of Tosti, now of Liszt, now of early Britten. But each work is sung with striking concentration and power by the rich, true contralto of Sara Mingardo.
