This look at Sunday repertoire centres around composers closely associated with Norwich cathedral. There are some really excellent voices in the choir, but when they sing together it disappoints, maybe because many of the interpretations lack subtlety. Nevertheless there is some good work, notably in Philip Ledger’s I will lift up mine eyes, Richard Allain’s finely wrought Norwich Service where the soloists in the Nunc Dimittis are outstanding, Elgar’s Give unto the Lord – the choir responding to the text with gusto – and an expressive performance of Howells’s ‘Collegium Regale’ Te Deum. There is much promise here.
