Many of the songs here demonstrate just how precocious Debussy was, and just how apt his poetic sense. Keith’s bright, agile soprano is more suited to these than to the better-known later cycle, which sets greater musical and emotional challenges. Lepper finds all the light and shade these songs require of a pianist, and sound is warm and clear.
