The players of the young American quartet seem so inside this music they might have been playing it all their lives. Arcadiana is a whirlwind of kaleidoscopic images, and The Four Quarters (new to disc) manages to be emotionally involving as well as boldly direct. The quintet, typically terse and concise, comes off best of all and has the imprimatur of the composer at the piano.
