Anonymous 4 have not broken new ground in their anthology from the Codex Las Huelgas. They may not be the first girl band to exploit this material, but their intelligent, beautifully constructed programme, featuring the impressive blend and ensemble one expects, is the most serene I know. Controversy rumbles about whether the polyphony was commissioned for male voices or sung by the nuns themselves, but this persuasive account transcends scholarly wrangling.
