More extrovert is Lamentazione, featuring 20 voices and a small continuo group from Les Arts Florissants, directed by Paul Agnew, exploring the plangent world of Italian early baroque in a vivid live recording from the Abbaye d’Ambronay. Particularly piquant are the 8- and 10-part settings of the Crucifixus by Antonio Lotti in surprisingly brisk, startlingly mannered interpretations.
