Performance practice aside, there’s still much quality music to rediscover and the work of Flemish renaissance composer Philippe Rogier is among current flavours of the month. having already treated us to his delightful polychoral music, for their third Rogier recording, Music from the Missae Sex , Magnificat and his Majesty’s Sagbutts and Cornetts explore the more sedate Mass settings that marked his service for Philip II of Spain: elegant, masterful counterpoint, eloquently sung and played and impeccably recorded.
