Heinrich Isaac’s rich, lugubrious (in a good way) polyphony is high in archaic, hieratic gesture, refined counterpoint and stately measure well suited to the handsome corporate sound of Ensemble Officium in their impeccably researched liturgical reconstruction of an Easter Mass, built around his six-part Missa Paschalis . In a generally excellent performance their avoidance of concert-choir showboating results in a fragrantly devotional, atmospheric recording in expansive acoustics.
