The sleeve-notes of Himmels-Lieder are lamentably short on biographical detail about the fabulous counter-tenor Franz Vitzthum whose truly exquisite voice, ravishing tone, delicacy of expression, flexibility, wonderful focus, intonation and range of colour are exemplary. along with elegant instrumental support from Capricornus Consort Basel, Vitzthum explores rare gems by Kobelius (a rival of J.S. Bach), Erlebach and Hildebrand among others. The luminous clarity of recording sets the seal on this inventive recital from a star in waiting.
