Two italian groups, Melodi Cantores and Pifaresca, join forces La Musica per San Rocco. I like their quirkily individual voices (including an eerily-toned counter-tenor, almost indistinguishable from a cornetto) as they give madrigalian expression to works by Giovanni Gabrieli and Bartolomeo Barbarini. The instrumental contributions are lovely, crowned by exuberant playing from director, Elena Sartori, on the organ of the Basilica di Santa Barbara in Mantua, all captured in glorious SACD expansiveness.
