This CD is dedicated to the works of Fumagalli (1830-1900), organ teacher in Milan, an eminent recitalist who played in Paris and London (Crystal Palace and St Paul’s Cathedral), and whose pupils included Marco Enrico Bossi. There are no fewer than eight world premiere recordings, and the range of styles include theatrical, programmatic, strict counterpoint, American band music and romantic symphonic. On listening, I was reminded of the New Year’s Day concert from Vienna – this must be the organ equivalent. The huge two-manual Serassi organ is well played by Fabio Re, who is thoroughly at home with this liturgical-entertainment organ music.
