Cooper’s third Chandos recording focusing (largely) on Schumann cleverly frames a kaleidoscopic Davidsbündlertänze with a pair of the Op 21 Novellettes, barely leaving room for the Abegg and Ghost Variations. Every musical twist and emotional turn is negotiated with deftness and insight, and the (Snape Maltings) recording is of demonstration quality.
