Talking of covers, Natalie Dessay and Philippe Cassard offer Fiançailles pour rire, where photographed in their gloriously ill-fitting wedding rig they surely make Cover of the Year! Dessay’s voice has a new tonal depth, almost huskiness, and she and pianist Cassard pack as much interpretation as possible into each song, ranging from Fauré to Duparc. As with Joyce & Tony, it’s a true partnership, with Dessay unafraid to take it from a whisper to a shout – she judiciously avoids going over the top.
