English medieval vernacular song is celebrated by the Dufay Collective and Voice Trio in I have set my hert so hy with recorder, double pipes, flute, whistle, vielle, rebec, gittern, harp and lute, plus a mummerset pronunciation scheme that scents the air without becoming too cheesy. It’s all in good taste and the gentle, ‘less is more’ reimagining of these works by William Lyons chimes sweetly with an approachable folksy style – while not branded as a Christmas disc, it reeks of mulled wine.
