The intellectual purity and emotional expanse of Lassus is partially captured by the consort Cinquecento in Missa super Dixit Joseph and motets. It’s not the cleanest singing and the two counter-tenors often fail to agree on pitch. Nevertheless, the ensemble atones for much with tonal richness, sympathetic phrasing and sustained legato in these works for four to seven voices, captured with well-balanced, rounded recorded sound.
