Josquin Desprez – Psalm settings finds the outstanding vocal ensemble from Bremen, Weser Renaissance (how do they manage to release so much in these straightened times?) with eight male voices, doubled or in solo consort, weaving their way through works for four and five voices expressively and with full appreciation of Josquin’s counterpoint as well as profound understanding of the text. The recording allows the thread of each voice clear definition against the whole, capturing acoustic bloom without losing an overall impression of intimacy, as though being sung to in one’s own private chapel.
