This is perhaps lang lang’s most successful recording to date, where his natural pizzazz overpowers the music much less than when playing Mozart, Schumann or Chopin. He tears into Prokofiev’s Third, and is matched by some of the most dazzling concerto accompaniment this reviewer has heard. Bartók’s second is even better, the ‘night music’ of the slow movement hauntingly rapt. Bonus ‘making of’ DVD.
