Though the original location is less effectively suggested by Jacques Arcadelt – Estote fortes in bello, it is not for want of effort from eight voices of the Josquin Capella, in various consort combinations, singing a fascinating selection of Sistine Chapel repertoire including the lovely Missa Ave regina caelorum for five voices. i could have wished for more release in the upper voices, but the balance is excellent, the internal interest in the polyphony engagingly explored, and these somewhat diffident, introspective performances have great clarity and elegance.
