This is really something special. Audite have sourced German radio recordings from the fifties and early sixties, effectively remastered, which present a more equal balance than their later studio recordings for DG. Norbert Brainin’s vibrato is balanced less prominently, such that the soundworld is transformed. There is a freshness, too, missing in their remakes, which makes this set invaluable for anyone interested in great quartet playing.
