KammerChor Saarbrucken’s 2011 homage to Victoria, a recording of the celebrated Officium defunctorum plus a clutch of motets may be a little tardy in crossing my desk but is very welcome none the less. The most rapturously eloquent performance by a large amateur chamber choir that has come my way, It is deeply spiritual and, at times, daringly sustained with gracefully graded dynamics, all recorded with a depth of bloom that emphasises ritual solemnity, polishing out vocal wrinkles into a velvety patina.
