Scholarly probity and a certain joie de vivre gild every production from the Brabant Ensemble with originality, authority and respect. When Brumel gets the treatment there’s loads to enjoy, from frolicking cross-rhythms in Nato canunt omnia to vitality of gesture in the title work, Missa de beata virgine. Though the soundscape is brightly tinted by ‘authentic’ pronunciation, their usual well-groomed blend and ensemble are somewhat disarrayed by a bit of rough in the lower spectrum.
