The liner notes for a curious coupling of Pergolesi’s La serva padrona with his Salve Regina suggest with some justification that he wrote in the same style for both church and theatre. There’s loads of character from Federico Benetti (bass) and a chirpy if inconsistent Angela Nisi (soprano), but the whole is blemished by thin, boxy sound, marring the moderately accomplished efforts of I Solisti Liriensi with inept engineering.
