Continuing an already impressive own-label cycle, this well-filled set is even finer. In the left-hand concerto, Volodin seems more imaginative than Babayan in the quixotic fifth, if neither has the verve and command of Bavouzet (Chandos). The symphonies are however in a league of their own – the finale of the sixth is as exciting as any on record – and, with excellent SACD sound, this is shaping up to be an unmissable series.
