Kniazev has a commanding presence and generously full tone, matched by elegant playing from Korobeinikov (listeners may be familiar with solo Scriabin for the same label). Yet there is also a dogged quality, with the pulse often slackening and a sense of the pianist struggling to inject much-needed freshness. A transcription of the D minor violin sonata contributes little other than playing time.
