Wow, what an excellent recording! The musicianship and communication between these young players is inspiring. They breathe the music as one, taking the listener through a wide range of emotions, from Handel’s sorrowful Cantata Ah! Che troppo ineguali to Bach´s uplifting Cantata BWV 51. Swedish soprano Maria Keohane extracts every last drop of expression with a purity of voice that is colourful and heartfelt, not least in Handel´s sublime aria Tu del Ciel ministro eletto. Recorded live in Luxembourg in 2011 their well- balanced concert programme reveals a warm, rich string sound in Handel’s Concerto Grosso Op 6 no 2, while effortless trumpet playing from Sebastian Philpott in Torelli´s Sonata in D compliments an exhilarating Brandenburg Concerto No 3. The future of period instrument performances is in excellent hands.
